The Cayman Islands signed a tax information exchange agreement (TIEA) today with the Kingdom of the Netherlands during a ceremony held at the Netherlands' Ministry of Finance in The Hague.
The TIEA with the Netherlands is the Cayman Islands' eleventh and is based on the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) standard for bilateral exchange of information on tax matters.
Signing on behalf of the Cayman Islands was Leader of Government Business and Premier Designate, the Honourable McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP. "This signing signifies a further affirmation of the commitment of the Cayman Islands, as well as the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to the openness and transparency that characterise the way business operates in these two jurisdictions," said Minister Bush. "I also acknowledge and thank all those involved in making today’s event a success. We look forward to our two countries working together on the implementation of this agreement."
Other members of the Cayman Islands delegation included the Honourable Samuel Bulgin, Attorney General; Mr. Cline Glidden, MLA; Mr. Ellio Solomon, MLA, and; Mrs. Michelle Bahadur, Senior Assistant Secretary in the Financial Secretary's Office.
Mr. J.C. de Jager, State Secretary for Finance signed the TIEA on behalf of the Netherlands.
The signing follows the conclusion of technical negotiations at a meeting between the respective delegations held 24-25 June 2009 in the Cayman Islands.
